Why I Ride ...
As you likely know, despite the official cancellation of the PMC weekend in 2020 and a truncated event in 2021, the PMC was still able to raise $50 million for the DFCI in 2020, $64 million in 2021, $69 million in 2022 and $72 million in 2023 for a cumulative total of over $970 million in total funding since the founding of the PMC! This year we're certain to achieve an incredible threshold of over $1 billion in cumlative funds raised by the PMC...a truly historic achievement!
As a sixth-year rider, but multi-decade financial supporter, I’ve always dedicated my rides to my mother, Beverly McCarthy, who succumbed to pancreatic cancer almost nine years ago at the age of 81. This year, in addition to my mother’s dedication, my ride will also be dedicated to a great friend and long-standing riding team member, Scott Logie, who contracted several forms of abdominal cancer just before last year’s PMC event. Scott is not only an outstanding individual, father and friend, but he’s been a gifted athlete his entire life including an illustrious hockey career at Yale. Moreover, Scott has been one of the strongest riders on our team for many years and earned well his team nickname “Tip Of The Spear”! All on Team Velominati (which this year totals over 90 riders) are cheering for Scott and are confidant that his strength of spirit will get him through the challenge. Our rides and fund-raising initiatives are made that much more memorable knowing that our collective efforts are focused on such an important and worthy cause, and this year we expect Team Velominati to surpass $1 million in total funds raised since our team’s founding!
As always, thanks so much for your support and generosity.
