Dear Family and Friends,
My Ride Update as of July 23, 2024: We are now less than two weeks away from riding. My taining is almost complete and I feel ready to ride! I am so humbled and appreciative of everyone's generosity and support for my ride this year. As of today, I have already exceeded the fundraising goal I had set of $11,000 (and with our match $22,000). As a result I am increasing my goal to $14,000 ($28,000 with the match). Please read on to hear about my friend Dave who lost his batte with cancer in March. I would really appreciate you considering sponsoring my ride this year. Thanks
My Ride Update as of July 2, 2024: My training for this ride has gone great. As of today I have completed almost 900 miles on roads and bike paths. My fundraising has also go very well. To date I have raised about $8,000 and hope to get to $11,000. With the 100% match described below, I should end up around $22,000 raised for cancer research this year. Please read on to hear about my friend Dave who lost his batte with cancer in March. I would really appreciate you considering sponsoring my ride this year. Thanks
On March 28, 2024 we sadly lost one of our dearest friends, David Alves, to brain cancer (pictured above). Dave was a great husband, father, family member and friend. Dave fought his illness for over 3 years. The medical professionals used advanced scientific techniques to help him and unfortunately it wasn’t enough. I miss him dearly.
I witnessed first hand with Dave how horrible cancer can be to the patient, their families and friends. I saw how science is making great strides to help and yet, a lot more needs to be done.
For the 8th year, I will be riding in the Pan Mass Challenge. The 180 mile bicycle ride is being held on August 3 & 4th. The PMC raises funds for cancer research and treatments at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I am dedicating my ride this year to Dave, his wife Cindy, their son Chris and his fiancée April. Once again I will ride with my friends Mark, Tom and Sam.
I would really appreciate it if you can support my ride this year. Similar to last year, our riding team has received a 100% match from the Warren Alpert Fund on our contributions raised. My goal is to raise over $11,000, which with the match will be $22,000, and will put my lifetime total over $90,000 raised for cancer research with this ride. Please see the links below or to the side to donate.
My inspiration: My dear friend Dave who lost his battle. Those that have lost their fights (Loraine B, Dave S., Cindy F., Paul J., Gabe P., Stu M., Dale B, Bill T, Hillary F and all the others we have lost to cancer). Those who are currently battling or beat cancer including MJ, Chris F., Christine V and Catherine P. Everyone who helps research cures and treatment for Cancer.
Thank you for considering a donation to this cause. With your help we will someday beat Cancer.
John
