SUPERHEROES...all the children that endure this dreadful disease....
My SUPERHERO is my son.
It was 16 years ago. May 7, 2007, Ethan was 5, and we heard the word…leukemia. They tell us we'll be in the hospital one month…a few hours later we learn it will be six months. Our lives turn upside down. We cope, we're comforted by family and friends, we learn from amazing doctors, nurses and other families in our situation. Our daily dialogue consisted of blood counts, chemotherapy drugs, life-threatening pneumonia, total body radiation, bone-marrow transplant, isolation at home, home schooling.
The bone marrow transplant was made possible by Ethan's little brother Eliot. Stepping up to the plate, Eliot plays a critical role in saving his brother's life. At the end of September, we finally arrive home to stay and keep Ethan in isolation for another seven months.
Fast forward, 16 years later…Ethan is thriving. He's 21 now. He's working and enjoying life. We met some amazing families and children along the way. Unfortunately some of the other SUPERHEROES lost their strength along the way. We will never forget them.
While progress and advances have been made, we need more. No more children should have to prove their SUPERHERO status this way. Your donation will help get us there…100% of these donations go to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute…they saved our son's life.
Yancy rode the PMC in 2008, I joined him every year after that, and this year we ride again together. On August 3 and 4, I will ride 192 miles in two days. I will ride for every child, every SUPERHERO. Not just for children though...we'll ride for every family that has been affected by cancer...every mom that has battled, every dad that has fought, every brother, every sister, every child that has lost their mom, their dad, their brother or their sister.
I will pray while I'm riding. For miracles. For healing...healing of children. And healing of families that have lost their children. I will ride in honor of my SUPERHERO, Ethan...and Charlie, Candy, Mary, Alison, Rena, Pam, Nicole, Sue and Donna. I will ride in memory of Grandma Jo, Uncle Martin, Tim, Connor, Jessie, Jonathan, Brave Will, Mary, DonnaMarie, Paul, Kristen, Jane, Frank, Dan, Arthur and Saiid. I will ride with tears in my eyes, knowing that we are making a difference.
You too can make a difference. ANY donation amount is greatly appreciated. $10, $20, $25, $50, $100…it's all the same…it goes toward a cure. Thank you for your support.
