On August 4th, I’ll be riding the 25 mile PMC route to help raise funds for Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Since 2004 I’ve been a patient at DFCI and successfully treated for thrombocythemia, and in 2023 I was diagnosed with CLL(chronic lymphocytic leukemia). Last year, thanks to e-bikes, I rode in my first PMC, which was an awesome and inspirational experience and this year I am thrilled to be joined on my ride by my wife and our four children.
Due to past fundraising and the outstanding work of talented physicians and researchers, there are more CLL treatment options than ever before and I'm fortunate to be the beneficiary of new generation targeted therapy, which has improved my symptoms and allowed me to continue living my life, as my DFCI doctors predicted. I am extremely grateful and hopeful there will someday be a CLL cure.
I’m also privileged to be riding as a member of team Flames, which includes some of the top cancer researchers, providers and scientists in the world along with DFCI patients, their families and friends. In their 24 years of existence, they have raised over 10 million dollars for blood cancer research.
I am also riding in memory of my father and father-in-law, two great guys and role models, Rick Schantz, an extended family member and friend, as well as for my relatives and friends who are battling cancer.
I would appreciate any and all donations, and due to the many generous sponsors, 100% of all donations will go directly to DFCI research. To donate online, you can access my PMC page where funds will go directly to CLL research or you can also mail a check made out to PMC and mail it to me at 900 Greendale Ave. Unit 18, Needham MA 02492.
Thanks for all your support.
