Dear Friends and Family,
As some of you may know, in October 2012 - almost 10 years ago - my Uncle and Godfather Stephen Michael Griffin passed away from colorectal cancer. My Uncle Steve was called home at age 53--far too early in his life--after showing admirable preserverance and faith for three-and-a-half years
Steve Griffin is not only an Uncle and Godfather to me, but also a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration. Throughout his battle, Stephen showed more resilience, strength, love, and optimism than I have ever seen before. If you met Stephen outside of his visits to the Dana Farber, you would never know he was fighting cancer because he always had a smile on his face and such a positive outlook on life.
In honor and memory of my Uncle Steven, and all those who fight the fight that he fought, Stephen’s three sons (my cousins John, Matt, and Steve), some of other family members & friends. and I will be riding together in the Pan Mass Challenge--a two-day 192-mile bike-ride that spans from South of Boston to the tip of Cape Cod (Stephen’s home). If you have the ability to donate, any help would be much appreciated. All donations go to support the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, which took such great care of my Uncle and does tremendous cancer research.
My Uncle Steve still lives with me and all of the others he has inspired. He reminds me to be strong in tough times, to have faith and hope, to appreciate the small moments in life, to always be able to laugh, and to enjoy and celebrate the company of friends and family.
Whether you can donate or not, I ask you for your prayers and thoughts as my family and I ride this summer in honor of my Uncle and all those who fight against cancer.
Thank you and God Bless,
John H. Griffin III
