Author John E. Lewis wrote, “If not us, then who? If not now, then when?” I had heard this quote several times through my professional career, but it wasn’t until my dad was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2008 that it invoked a call to action, a commitment, and a passion to do my part.
It took me 4 years to work up the courage to sign up for the PMC. It’s a lot of money to raise and I had severe anxiety even thinking about getting on a bike as a result of a terrible bicycle accident in the 7th grade. I hadn't been on a bike in over 25 years...heck, I didn't even own a bike when friends started talking to me about the PMC. It helps that I have a supportive husband, family and a great group of friends. Since 2012 I've raised over $50,000, have ridden 10,000+ miles and I've discovered an inner strength, confidence and passion that I never knew existed.
So, here I am! Still riding 12 years later...Riding in honor of those who continue to inspire me with their strength, tenacity and optimism...my Dad Tom Guebert; multiple aunts and uncles, ADPi Pledge Mom, Karen Frost; my Brasilian Mom, Elke Willecke; and so many other friends who are battling this disease while continuing to love life and live theirs with strength and courage.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate and has taken too many too soon. I hate cancer. This is the least I can do to support a cause I feel so passionately about.
Every little bit helps! I'm grateful for whatever you can give and, with your support, we will continue to get closer by the mile in curing cancer.
With love & gratitude,
Jen
