Why I Ride ...
I am honored to be riding with Team Wilson Farm this year to raise money to support Dana Farber cancer research. I am riding on August 5th & 6th from Wellesley to Provincetown. I ride once again for friends and family and this year for myself, as I am also a recent cancer survivor and living proof. Having been diagnosed with prostate cancer this past July, I am now cancer free. A very humbling experience.
Thirty one years ago, my father, John M. Denison age 71 , succumbed to prostate cancer that metastasized to bone cancer. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in American men. Prostate cancer can be a serious disease, but most men diagnosed with prostate cancer do not die from it. In fact, more than 3.1 million men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point are still alive today. Many cancers that were once fatal or life changing have been reduced to a mere inconvenience due to the continuing advancements in medicine. The dedicated team of doctors and researchers at Dana Farber and around the world are making incredible strides towards making what was often a death sentence, now a disease that can be cured or managed so that patients can live normal lives.
I am proud to be a supporter of the PMC because it is leading the charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s tireless commitment to finding a cure. I hope you can join me in supporting this worthy cause.
