I'm getting ready for my 36th consecutive PMC event in early August 2022.
The benificiary of our ride, of course, is the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). I still have a great fondness for DFCI and continue to support their efforts!
As always, my family and friends have supported this obsession/passion magnificently. My Bride, The Great Colleen, is my life's support, my daughter, Queen Irene, is a 5-year veteran Wildwood Challenge/PMC Kids 'heavy hitter' (and seven year PMC rider or volunteer!) and my sister Tricia is a twenty+ year PMC rider/volunteer. Tricia & Doug, Rose & Colin, other family members, and many great and good friends have been with me from the beginning - I know how fortunate I am.
I've always written: I ride because I can - for those who can't (right now). Unfortunately, the 'can't right now' is me! I had an unfortunate fall and can't bike right now. Perhaps in 2023 I'll be back on the bike!
Together, we've raised a lot of money over the years and the miles. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of miles to pedal and dollars to raise. Every year, and I know that this is true for you too, it seems that there are new, compelling reasons to ride - more family and friends battling hard against this disease. My sister, Kate, died three years ago from a Stage 4 colon cancer that metastisized to her liver and beyond.
I'm supporting PMC and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in honor of Kate and in celebration of the continued health of my Bride, the Great Colleen, who worked through a Stage II breast cancer diagnosis, surgery and treatment in 2008 with her typical unflagging grace under pressure. I also ride in honor of other brave cancer fighters: Celiane Casserly, Dawn Nelson, Jessica Bean, Helen Drinan, Regina Pfeiffer, Colin Nadeau, Rose Nadeau, Doug Harding, Dianne Spearman, Beverly Dillaway, Diane Slotnick, and Special K - Katherine Lucas McKay.
And, of course, I ride in fond memory of Kate Droney, Donna Nagle, Rick Mirabile, Cecile Gregory, Steve Clark, Franco Davoli, Tucker Geery and Erin Kurtz: Gone too soon after fighting the good fight.
Thank You for making a difference.
John
