Hope you had an enjoyable summer. Last month I rode my 28th consecutive PMC, the 190 mile charity bike ride across Massachusetts, and it was as difficult as any I can recall due to extreme heat and humidity. Age is increasingly a factor too!
This year I rode in memory of very dear and amazing Stacey Peltz who we lost to cancer last October. I miss her terribly. I also rode for wonderful friend and longtime fellow Paul’s Posse teammate Tony Howell who was recently diagnosed and treated for cancer. He wasn’t able to ride this year but was there supporting and helping out our team Paul’s Posse throughout the weekend. This year I was again joined by my son Bobby and loving partner Nokuthula both of whom make this event extra special.
The Pan Mass Challenge continues to be the biggest cancer fundraising event in the country and largest source of funding for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Remarkably, Dana Farber has played a critical role in the development of more than half of all cancer drugs approved by the FDA in the past five years.

Thanks for your support over so many years. I hope you’ll consider it again on behalf of both of us but if you prefer to make a single donation please do so in Thula’s name. Her fundraising letter is below along with some photos.

Summer greetings! This August I welcomed a sixth PMC with loving partner John Clements and the fabulous Paul’s Posse. I’m undertrained, but committed.
Our group has added another living proof to its ranks this year; we now have four. Posse member Tony Howell has been incredible through this experience and I proudly ride for him and his continued recovery. I also ride for another friend and survivor this year: Gardner Cole. A fabulous musician and wonderful colleague, he continues to inspire through art and a deep connection to nature. I'm also riding for family friend Stacey Peltz, whose balance of this illness with a full life and incredible sense of humor was a wonder. She is missed by all who knew her.
Treatments available today through research done at Dana Farber Cancer Institute address so much more than they did over 20 years ago when my dear adoptive mother Charlotte Garceau Treuenfels was diagnosed. She remains my forever hero.
Surviving to thrive remains the goal with every diagnosis. Rain or shine, I look forward to sharing stories of effort and struggle. I enjoy the multiple generations of family members riding together. Seeing children grow year after year because of care they have received from Dana Farber is an emotional highlight of the 186 mile ride. When they show up, I show up.
Congratulations to John Clements on his 28th PMC! Thanks to him and the Clements Family for introducing me to this opportunity to ride together and raise funds for transformative research.
Heartfelt thanks also to our team Paul's Posse, the amazing volunteers, survivors, children and family members en route who encourage and keep us safe.
Thanks to those who have kindly supported in the past. I hope you’ll consider joining me again to support the continued important thought, research, collaboration, perseverance and dedication to cure cancer - and those who shine through it all: https://egifts.pmc.org/NN0030.
