This August, I will be riding in the 2024 Pan-Mass Challenge. The PMC is a 162-mile bike ride to help raise money for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
I am riding for my best friend’s son, 4-year-old Owen Noonan. Lauren and I have been best friends for over 25 years and their family is currently going through the unimaginable. This past December, Owen was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and has since been undergoing multiple treatments and intense procedures, including chemotherapy. Owen is one of the funniest and most charismatic kids I have ever met; constantly cracking (very funny) jokes, playing sports with his brother and twin sister – all while battling a diagnosis and hard days that no 4 year-old should have to face. Just last week after a tough procedure In Boston, Owen showed up to the beach wanting to play wiffle ball – hilariously taunting me as the pitcher and then rushing the mound when I accidentally hit his brother, with a bad pitch. Luckily, he let me off easy! As you can see - Owen is smart, funny, strong and resilient, as are his parents and siblings. The bike ride may not be easy, but it is nothing compared to what this brave boy and his family are going through – and will get through.
I also ride for my sister Jacqueline. Jac is a two-time cancer survivor; most recently dominating a tough battle with Breast Cancer in 2018. She has shown so much strength in her journey, and I am proud to call her my sister and a best friend. I also ride for my mother, Maureen; diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2022. Mom is a warrior, never wanting to show us her pain. Thankfully, after multiple surgeries, we just celebrated Mom's 60th Birthday 'Cancer free'. I ride for my Auntie Amy - another Pink Warrior - who rang the bell ‘Breast Cancer Free’ only just a few months ago. I am so blessed to have these strong women in my life, with the help and treatment from Dana-Farber.
To do my part for Owen, I have joined Team Kevin Fitz - riding my first PMC alongside my 8 best girlfriends, including Lauren and Jacqueline. I am asking for your help with fundraising & supporting my ride.
To all those currently battling cancers, those in remission, and in memory of those who have lost their battle– We ride for you.
No one should have to face this awful disease – especially children – but we have seen what lifesaving treatments can and will do for Owen and others.
Please consider donating to my ride and this amazing cause, to help the fight, where 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber’s tireless commitment to finding a cure.
Any amount helps!! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the support!
