Year 4! On August 2nd I will be saddling back up to ride my fourth annual Pan Mass Challenge. Year 4 will look a little different as I attempt to tackle the full, two-day ride from Wellesley to Provincetown. Day one will consist of riding from Wellesley to Bourne (85 miles) and day two will be Bourne to Provincetown (77 miles). After three years of getting my legs underneath me, I figured it was time to take on the main event.
This year I will be riding again alongside my father, my brother Spencer, more of my closest friends in an ever-growing team in conjunction with The Biker's Dozen. My wife, Caroline, will be cheering from the sidelines with Blake who is quickly approaching her first birthday!
The PMC truly is a special day. A day in which I feel part of something much greater than myself. The Pan Mass Challenge is a two-day long, 162-mile bike ride across the state of Massachusetts. This challenge was created in 1980 and today raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. Over the past 40+ years, PMC cyclists have ridden to raise and contribute over $1 billion to cancer research. 100% of your donation goes to cancer research. Your donation can make a difference in the lives of millions of people every year who develop cancer.
More specifically, The Biker's Dozen is a unique team as all proceeds are directed towards finding a cure for pediatric brain tumors: specifically DIPG, (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma). Last spring, we received confirmation that a pediatric brain tumor drug discovered at the DFCI was just approved by the FDA for wide scale distribution. A truly remarkable accomplishment that makes the fundraising efforts feels even more tangible.
It was just over seven years and four years ago that both my father and father-in-law, respectively, were diagnosed with prostate cancer. They were both extremely lucky to have detected the disease in the very early stages and to have their prostates surgically removed. Seven years and four years later to this day they are both cancer free. Whether it be directly or indirectly, all of our lives are touched by the horrible disease that cancer is.
I truly appreciate any support you can give me to help this worthy cause. We need to eradicate cancer. Every dollar matters in this battle. Please support me via my donation link below or on my PMC profile.
