Update from Jim's Family
Jim passed away unexpectedly on 20 June, 2023. Many family, friends, and colleagues have asked how they can honor Jim's memory and we know that supporting the PMC is exactly what he would have wanted. You can see this so clearly in his message below, which we've left unchanged from what he wrote: 18 years of unstinting fundraising on behalf of the PMC. This is precisely what he would be working on right now, as he did virtually every day of the last 18 years.
We're confident that this the best way you can continue to support something that meant so much to him. And because of that, it would mean so much to us, too.
--As of July 11th, we have met and surpassed Jim's original goal of $16,914 for this year, bringing his lifetime total to $250,000. The new goal of $21,093 would exceed his highest year - thank you all for your generosity.
--As of July 16th, we have met and surpassed the goal of $21,093 to make 2023 Jim's highest year. The final goal we are setting for the remainder of the 2023 PMC season is $25,000 - we are honored and grateful for your support.
--As of July 31st, we have met the $25,000 goal. While we will not be setting another goal, donations are still welcome for the remainder of this PMC, ending October 1st. This response is a testament to the values that Jim held dear: generosity, community building, and dedication to others.

Please Support me for the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC)!
This will be my 18th year as a rider in the PMC, August 5-6, 2023. It’s a fundraiser, for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. And the reason we do it? Results like the picture here! I’ll be pedaling from Wellesley to Provincetown, a distance just over 160 miles in the two days.
To see the remarkable results of PMC donations in this struggle against cancer, go to https://www.pmc.org/impact. I’ve seen it firsthand, in patients I’ve spoken to, including several from my PMC team Kinetic Karma, who benefitted from DFCI’s effective and compassionate care.
My personal fundraising goal for 2023 is to raise at least $16,914.04. How’s that for a strange number? The reason I’ve chosen that number is because with that amount, I’ll go over a cumulative $250,000 for my 18 years as a rider. I think I could go higher this year, reaching my 2022 total of $19,395, or even my all-time record of $21,092 from 2021. My supporters have been terrific, making and enlarging donations, providing multiple contributions, recruiting friends, and securing matching funds. For 2023, here’s what you can do – any or all would help:
- Contribute on-line by clicking “Donate to My Ride” on this page, or mail a check made out to “The Jimmy Fund” to me at 21 Old Shirley Road, Harvard, MA 01451.
- If your organization has a matching program, go to HR and follow the process to use the program.
- When I ride, I carry names of cancer victims/survivors – if there’s someone I should honor, tell me.
- Forward this note to anyone else who might be interested.
I’ve greatly appreciated the phenomenal past support, and I look forward to inspiring response in 2023!
Regards and thanks,
Jim
