I raised over $21,000 in 2022, my most ever, and am going to shoot for 22,000 for 2024. Thanks! I know that my many generous donors will dig deep and help me honor the institution that takes such good care of so many including me!
I have registered for the actual 2024 PMC ride after four years of doing my miles on Martha's Vineyard. It is hard to beat sleeping in my own bed, putting some days between my two long rides and choosing days with cooler temps. However, this year will be the 20th for my team, Team Brent (www.TeamBrent.com), and will be the year that the total PMC fundraising since its inception in 1980 exceeds $1 billion. I have not decided whether to do it or not but am sorely tempted. Perhaps I will just do one 85 mile day.
I had the good fortune to personally benefit from Dana Farber since 2019 when I was treated for two baby cancers, a low grade lymphoma and an unrelated very early stage breast cancer. A targeted chemo with few side effects has suppressed the lymphoma for a few years and a lumpectomy put the breast cancer to bed forever, I hope! It became very clear to me, in a newly personal way, why Dana Farber is such a special place worth supporting!
2024 will be my twenty-sixth year in the PMC and my twentyfirst year for neuroblastoma research, fourteenth year as part of TeamBrent (see http://teambrent.com). I also ride in memory of my aunt, Mickey Bigelow and my stepfather, Granger Kenly, and in honor of my many friends and family who are cancer survivors.
I have to admit that I am what is known in the PMC as a lifer, I will be riding as long as I am able and then will volunteer. When I consider what I have been able to raise over the past twenty-six years (over $206,000) and see the difference those funds have made (Neuroblastoma survival rates have gone from 15% to 50%), I would be foolish to quit.
I am very clear on the difference that Dana Farber make, the progress that has been made just in the last twenty-one years, the long road to curing cancer and my commitment to the journey. As the ride approaches, my doubts and misgivings all disappear and the exhileration and inspiration of the ride carry me through to recommitting the next January!

The PMC has made what we do at Dana Farber possible. When they write the history about how cancer was conquered, the PMC will be in chapter one.
