Dear Friends and Family,

The Snappers are supporting the Dana Farber Cancer Institue in Boston, by biking in the Pan Mass Challenge, or PMC.   This is a 2 day, 192 mile bike race across Massachusetts.  

The Dana Farber Cancer Institute does ground breaking research into the detection and treatment of Cancer.  They treat many patients every year, but the research is largely supported by personal donations (tax deductible) from people like you.

WHAT A CHALLENGING YEAR...

I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of the 36 million dollars raised by PMC riders went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.

In 2012, my Brother and I were both diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.  What a shock!  Both of us were otherwise healthy and asymptomatic, and therefore the diagnosis was an unpleasant surprise.  We both received outstanding care, but it was a long road both physically and emotionally for us and our Families.  Fortunately, in both cases the cancer was detected early and both of us have already received definitive therapy.

As a physician, I have always felt cancer was one of the worst diseases that I encounter.  However, during my career, I have seen large advances in the successful treatment.  Unfortunately, this is not always the case.  There are still many cancers which do not have effective therapy and have a terrible prognosis.

There is still a lot of work to be done in early detection and treatment of many cancers.

I am very proud of my older Brother who is riding in his 25th PMC!  Over the years, he has been able to raise a lot of money through his diligent efforts.  I have supported him financially in the past, but this year I feel that I have to do more to help raise money for Cancer Research.  

I have already started training, but I know that I have a long road ahead of me to be able to accomplish my goal of successfully completing my first PMC.
