Hello Everyone!
I want to thank you all for your support along my journey with the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) as I pedal through my 18th year.
I am participating in the 2024 PMC as a “Reimagined Rider” which allows me the ability to ride my own mileage and determine the event and/or events that I participate in. Thus far I have been fortunate to participate in a triathlon (June in Springfield, MA) as well as log many rides on my indoor bike trainer with outdoor rides mixed in. My longest ride will take place at the Palmer Motorsports Park (Whiskey Hill Raceway – Palmer, MA)) with a continuous 211.6-mile ride (92-laps) which will just exceed the longest available 2024 PMC ride of 211-miles. I am very thankful for this opportunity as it allows me an environment where I can focus on riding my bike without the excitement of what the next passing vehicle may be focused on.
This year I am riding in support of my Mom (Susan Scott) & Tommy O’Conner. My Mom has been a PMC volunteer and supporter since my journey began in 2007 & this year is no different … Thankful for her example & love each and every day! Tommy continues his courageous battle & is an example to all with the strength he shows.
I am also riding in memory of AJ Congdon and in support of the Congdon & Gwosch families. “He could light up any room with his bright smile, infectious laugh, and unmatched energy … AJ loved to live life to the extreme, always pushing the limits.” An excellent example to follow in always pushing your limits to be your very best!
My simple goal in participating in the PMC is to put cancer in its place & to try to protect anybody I can from being affected by it ... The goal is a cancer free world. I plan to ride in the PMC as long as I am physically capable and I am looking forward to closing out 2024 on a high note.
I am fortunate to have a spot on Team Flames (Fast Legs and Minds Ending Suffering) and although I will not be riding with them in-person we remain together in spirit!
Team FLAMES raises money targeted at Adult Oncology research with emphasis in the Sarcoma/Leukemia and Lymphoma Departments of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). We focus on “dedicated funding” with money we raise and it primarily supports blood cancer research. The discoveries being made in the labs that utilize our annual donations are being done by our team doctors, nurses, and professionals and are unrestricted by pharma funding. With this we believe in “open-source” sharing of discovery and focus on results and discoveries that help all cancer research as blood cancers are universally applicable to all cancers. This unrelenting “open-source” clinical work within the non-profit DFCI is leading the way not only here in the US but across the globe. This is where our raised rider dollars go. It supports all ages and all cancers ultimately.
