People always ask me “Why do you continue to ride the PMC?” … and my answer is a simple one … because I can.
On Saturday August 2, I will ride my 12th PMC in support of all of you, your loved ones and Dana Farber … because I can. I am physically capable of riding 50+ as well as all the miles throughout my training and will continue to ride … because I can.
Far too many stories have been shared with me (and etched upon my heart) of family, friends and loved ones who simply are not able to ride because of their cancer or the side effects of treatment. I ride for them. I ride for those who are no longer physically here. I ride for all of you … because I can.
My Mom always told me, “If you’re going to do something, do it to the best of your ability.” So, I will continue to ride … because I can … and I will do it to the best of my ability.
I ride for our Survivors … Gerry (my FIL), Lou & Dot Blais, Rob, Trish, Beth, Chelsey, Cindy K, Cyndi Trent, Danielle S, Diane T, Diane W, Fred, Iris, Janine, Jeff A, Jodie C, Julie C, Kevin F, Kim, Krista, Linda J, Lisa C, Lisa H, Mandy, MaryAnn Soderquist, Meghan G, Michele M, Michelle P, Paul M, Phyllis, Sharon E, Sheryl, Silvana Smith, Robin H, Robyn Marchand, Tammi, Tracey and Zoriada.
And for those we’ve lost … Brian (my Dad), Anne (my MIL), Traci, Lyn, Jodi B , Gregory Goshgarian, Jessica Faria, Kevin Madden, Pam Adornato (Mom II), Roberts Apse, Vince Adornato (Dad II) and so many others.
The physical ride is only one part of my commitment to the PMC. I also commit to fundraising. 100 percent of all rider-raised funds go directly to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s single largest supporter and is more than 60 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue.
Your continued support is genuinely appreciated. Whether you make a monetary donation, come out to cheer me on, or provide some other type of support … these are all simple acts with an immense impact … for both me and the PMC!!
As always … in the words of my beautiful friend Traci … Be well.
With gratitude,
Heather
