A few short months ago, I made the commitment towards raising money for cancer research by riding in the 2016 Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). On the first weekend in August, I will join 5,500 cyclists in the PMC ride, an annual bike-a-thon that raises money for research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) in Boston.
Although I am typically a runner, I am going to get out of my comfort zone and hit the road with everything I’ve got. I have always been told that I have an overactive nervous system- I am as quick to scare, as I am to turn to optimism and choose happiness. Although this ride is intimidating and unfamiliar to me, in this life you have a choice to sit down and never try- or to believe you can and keep going. By making this commitment to ride, I am committing to the idea that nothing is impossible, that a runner can transform into a cyclist, and that we can see a world without cancer.
I will be riding alongside my sister, Brittany Lawless. Our hope is to raise money towards this incredible cause and to finish strong for PMC community. The Pan-Mass Challenge donates 100% of every rider-raised dollar to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.
I hope I can count on your support
The PMC raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country, $455 million since 1980 and $41 million last year alone! This success is the result of a lot of people riding for, and caring about, a cure. And because every penny matters, 100 percent of your donation goes to DFCI.
I've made a personal commitment to ride and raise $2,000. So I hope you can help me achieve this significant goal.
Please consider donating to either (or both) of us as we enter the home stretch of training! Thank you so much for all of you who have supported us thus far.
