Dear Beloved Friends and Family
I hope you all are having a fun and relaxing summer!!
For the third time, this weekend I will bike nearly 100 miles in the Pan Mass Challenge to raise funds for cancer research. My fundriasing goal this year is $4,500. In the past two I have raised close to 9k for the Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute
I'm emailing to ask for your support for my fundraising effort.
(see below for quick fundraising links, but feel free to click here to make a donation of any amount!)
Why I ride:
I ride in honor of my Great Auntie Jeanne, who some of you had the privilege of knowing.
Jeanne was a larger-than-life character who collected friends and nurtured a large community of loved ones like no other.
Jeanne spent her career devoted to caring for those battling cancer as the head Operating Room nurse Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital, before losing her own life to breast cancer in 2008.
Jeanne was also a philanthropic person devoted to her community and uplifting young people. She worked tirelessly to sponsor the school fees of young Jamaican track athletes and would host many of them in her tiny NYC apartment every year so they could have a chance to compete at the prestigious Penn Relays.
We miss Auntie Jeanne everyday, but her loss is felt especially intense for me this summer as the 2024 Olympics were in full swing.
One of the many young athletes she sponsored was Shelly Ann Fraser, who won the 100m sprint at the Beijing Olympics and was crowned the fastest woman in the world just 5 months after Jeanne passed in 2008.
Shelly Ann has gone on to win a stunning 8 Olympic medals during her career and reach world-wide stardom, but remains touched by Auntie Jeanne. Inspired in part by Jeanne, Shelly Ann created the Pocket Rocket Foundation, which supports high school athletes in financial need. (Here she is talking about Jeanne's impact on her life).
I know that Auntie Jeanne is smiling down on Shelly and cheering on all of the Jamaican track athletes this month in Paris. It is my goal to make her proud by continuing her legacy as a community uplifter through my ride for a cure to cancer.
Thank you so much for considering donating to this important cause.
I love you all!
