I ride for myself and those like me with Neuroendocrine Cancer
This is the 7th year that Rick and I and our supportive friends on Team Heidi's Heroes are riding the Pan Mass Challenge Bike-a-thon (the PMC). Our purpose is to support research on pancreatic cancer--- both adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine. The funds our team raises will directly support the Neuroendocrine Cancer Research Program lead by Dr. Jennifer Chan and Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma Research Program lead by Dr Brian Wolpin. Both labs, at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, are conducting seminal national research for the treatments of pancreatic cancer.
As many of you know, in 2010 I developed pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer (think Steve Jobs and Aretha Franklin). Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Cancer typically begins as a tumor in the pancreas (or gastrointestinal tract) and metastasizes to the liver. Because it may not cause symptoms early on, it is usually stage 4 when it is diagnosed. There are no known causes or risk factors. It affects people aged 20 and over. At present there is no cure. In 2016 a drug was FDA approved for treatment of this cancer. The goal of the medication is to prevent the tumor from growing. This medication is keeping me alive. Your donation will support research that will lead to the next treatment, a cure!
A donation of any size is greatly appreciated!!
