YEAR 3! (after a long hiatus)
I am riding because in May 2016, at just 29 years old, my twin sister, Brittany, was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma- a rare and aggressive form of bone and soft tissue cancer. Brittany was fortunate enough to receive her treatment at the DFCI and BWH. Thanks to the phenomenal nurses and doctors, and the entire clinical, research, and support staff at the DFCI, Brittany has now been cancer free for 7 years. I can’t really describe how I felt when we found out that Brittany was sick, or how I felt during her treatment, or even how I still feel today when I think about it, but I do know how I feel when I think about DFCI- it is quite simply a phenomenal place full of phenomenal people doing phenomenal work and providing tremendous care to patients every day. The amount of gratitude and love I have for the Dana Farber for saving my sister’s life is beyond measure, and there is no amount of money I could help raise to show my thanks, but I hope that participating in the PMC is a start.
I am riding because 100% of rider-raised dollars go to Dana Farber Cancer Institute and its Jimmy Fund Clinic, directly impacting the research and care provided to patients. I am riding to honor my sister’s journey, as well as to honor those who have fought, are currently fighting, and those who will fight in the future. I am so grateful that patients like Brittany have the Dana Farber, and grateful that the Dana Farber has generous people like you! Thank you, thank you, thank you a million times over!!!
