WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE...
Dear Friends and Family,
I am once again reaching out to ask YOU to support my annual Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) ride - my 15th – being held the first weekend in August. I had committed to ride across Massachusetts in the PMC - almost 300 miles over 3 days - from the western New York border to Provincetown but recently I unfortunately crashed my mountain bike, tore my left knee ACL and broke my tibia.
I underwent surgery on May 7th and am about to embark on the long rehab road to recovery. G-d willing I will be able to ride in August, if not I will do a “Re-Imagined” PMC ride where I’ll ride the miles after the PMC when I am cleared and fit enough to ride. In the greater scheme of things, this is minor compared to those who are battling the scourge of cancer. I will recover and be back stronger than before and hope that with your support, together we will help those fighting cancer.
I am part of a wonderful cohort of friends who love to cycle and have been riding together for the past 24 years. Our friend GreGG Fradkin was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019, as was his sister, both in their fifties, neither of whom were smokers. Out of this awful diagnosis PMC Team 3G was born.
This year I continue my commitment to - Team 3G - to raise funds for and awareness of lung cancer. The money we help raise supports the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s (DCFI) Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology (https://www.dana-farber.org/thoracic-lung-cancer-treatment-center/). Our funds also support Melanoma and Brain cancer research.
Our team goal is to raise over $400,000, which will allow this incredible team of oncologists, radiologist, and surgeons to do what they do best - provide optimal therapies and treatments to patients in search of lifesaving, innovative care.
Please help me in reaching my personal goal of raising $11,000! The PMC raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country, $972 million since 1980 and $72 million in 2023 alone! This success is the result of a lot of people riding for, and caring about, a cure. Since every penny matter, 100% of your donation goes to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 2024 will mark the year that the PMC surpasses the 1-BILLION DOLLAR in funds raised over their history. I encourage you to browse the PMC website and read some of the touching and inspiring stories.
Thank you for your support
Hal
