This year I am dedicating my 15th PMC charity bike ride to my beloved father, David Woolf, a truly exceptional man who passed away this week. Let’s celebrate the legacy of a person who touched countless lives, dedicating decades of his life to making a difference in the communities he loved.
Honorary Life Member of Everything
Dad's commitment to his community was unmatched. He was bestowed honorary life membership at his temple, the world diamond federation, his yacht club, and political party, reflecting the profound impact he had on those organizations.
His dedication to Temple David spanned over 50 years, serving on committees, and even stepping up to give services when needed, and served on the administration board for decades.
Dad's passion for the diamond industry led him to leave a lasting impression on the global diamond industry, serving as Chairman or Vice-Chair of the World or South African Diamond Federations seventeen times.
Dad was an adventurer at heart, seeking new experiences and joy in SCUBA diving, sailing, and exploring the world. His positive sociable nature fostered meaningful connections with people from all walks of life, leaving behind a multitude of diverse friendships. Sailing held a special place in his heart, and he was an active member of the East Rand Yacht Club, where he contributed to the club's newsletter for decades.
His Life’s Purpose
A brilliant mind and a natural teacher, Dad's intellect and love for languages set him apart. His fluency in Italian and Hebrew, self-taught, showcased his determination and passion for learning. He excelled in his legal career before venturing into the diamond industry, where his wisdom and eloquence guided friends, family, and colleagues in both legal and personal matters.
But above all, Dad's legacy lies in his profound kindness and selflessness. His mantra to be kind to people reflects the essence of his remarkable life. He adored his children and taught us the value of uplifting others through small acts of kindness.
As I ride in his memory, I carry forward his timeless message of kindness as a guiding light in my life and the lives of others. In a world often marked by selfishness, his wisdom serves as a beacon of hope. Through this charity bike ride, I honor his memory and continue the legacy of love he so deeply showed us.
