Why I Ride ...
Way back in 1989 and 1990 I rode the PMC, but then for various reasons did not keep up the tradition. Back in 2011 I was out on my bike for a ride, not even thinking it was the PMC weekend, and saw the riders go by on their way to the 40 mile rest stop. I realized that they were taking part in something great and meaningful, and I was sitting on the sidelines. It started riding the PMC again in 2012 and I've been doing it ever since.
When I first road the PMC, it was more a physical challenge than anything else, and I really had no personal experience with cancer. But life is short, and many of us have lost friends, family -- my father -- and loved ones to cancer. The PMC is something I can still do, and contribute to a great cause. The progress made in treating cancer, and improving the quality of life for cancer patients is truly astounding, and organizations like the Dan-Farber Cancer Institute are on the leading edge of this life-saving research.
So every first weekend in August I will hop on my bike and keep riding, just as I did thirty five years ago.
