He who has health has hope; and he who has hope, has everything
I have never realized how much saying this meant until it was my own health that was in jeopardy.
Getting a cancer diagnosis changes everything. And I mean everything.
You sift through your past, contemplate your future, treasure each moment and most of all..you hold onto hope.
Hope is what forces you to fight, not just for yourself but for everyone around you.
I am thrilled to say I am now two years cancer free and I am filled with gratitude, joy and yes ...hope.
Hope is the PMC
Every rider that takes on the challenge of riding in the PMC is creating hope for someone who is facing the most frightening time of their lives.
I have been part of this difficult, time consuming, beautiful event for over two decades. It has fulfilled me, given me purpose, and meant more to me tha I could have ever imagined.
This year...my twenty first ride..will be my last. It will be bittersweet to hit the saddle that one more time, but I am not hanging up my bike shorts entirely.
I will remain invovled as a volunteer and continue to support and encourage other as they contribute to this awesome cause.
My goal this year is to pedal 50 miles in one day and raise 30-thousand dollars. I know it is a lofty goal...but I know we can do it. We have to. There are too many people who's hopes rest on our shoulders to deliver on the promise to destroy cancer.
This yearI will once again ride as a member of Team PopSciCycles with a mission to prrovide support for detection and prevention of many types of cancer, and to communicate important discoveries to at-risk populations. Team Perini is always a part of my PMC family and of course my pedal partner Coleman Fennelly will give me strength to hit the course one last time. It is hard to believe that Coleman is now 20 years old. He is a force and makes his family proud every day.
It is hard to say goodbye to something that has changed my life in so many profound ways. For years I thought I was giving to the PMC. I was, but what I never expected was how much it gave to me.
Many of you have been along for the ride all these years and I can't thank you enough for your generosity .
Thanks for being part of the team!!
