The Pan-Mass Challenge has had a constant presence in my life for as long as I can remember. My family and I started by participating in the South Shore Kid’s Ride, an annual tradition that became even more meaningful when my older sister, Jacqueline, became a Pedal Partner. It was through her journey that I formed a deep, personal connection with the PMC’s mission.
In 2011, Jacqueline lost her courageous battle with osteosarcoma at just eighteen years old. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss her. Riding in the PMC is my way of honoring her memory—carrying her strength and spirit with me. When she was diagnosed, I was so young and often felt powerless in helping her fight. Now, by riding in her honor, raising money, and supporting this incredible community, I hope to turn that helplessness into action and reclaim a sense of purpose in the fight against cancer.
As I’ve grown older—now surpassing the age Jacqueline was during her battle—I’ve come to both appreciate and admire her strength in a deeper way. Even as she faced unimaginable challenges, Jacqui was determined to help others. She worked with the Jimmy Fund Clinic to create programs that uplifted and supported young cancer patients like herself, reminding them that “hope is beautiful.” Her legacy of empathy and advocacy continues to inspire me every day. In fifth grade, I chose the Pan-Mass Challenge as the subject of a year-long research project. Even as a child, that experience opened my eyes to the incredible work of the PMC and the Jimmy Fund. I still remember how special it was to interview staff members, including the founder, Billy Starr, and to learn firsthand about the life-changing impact this organization has on families like mine. During a time when cancer had brought so much fear and uncertainty into my life, the PMC became a source of hope and inspiration.
I also ride for every family affected by this disease—for the hope, the healing, and the chance to one day see a world without cancer. For years, I’ve watched my dad, a dedicated PMC rider for over a decade, set off from the starting line. It has always been my dream to join him. This year, that dream finally becomes a reality, and I couldn’t be more honored to ride by his side.
This ride is my way of keeping my beautiful sister's legacy alive while supporting a cause that has meant so much to my family and I for as long as I can remember. Thank you for joining me on this new journey! Your help and donations are so appreciated.
