Why I Ride ...
I ride for my son, Robert who is my hero and my inspiration. In July 2009 Robert climbed 12,241-foot Mt. Baldy during a125-mile backpacking trip to Philmont Scout ranch in New Mexico. Two days later he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma and we learned that he had a large tumor in his chest that had collapsed his left lung. In all likelihood Robert had completed his trek with one functioning lung.
Robert completed his two-year treatment program in September 2011. Throughout his treatment he maintained his sense of humor, and his ready smile and great disposition have helped all of us through this time. Robert is now cancer free and his prognosis is excellent. He is also a May 2016 graduate of Elon University!
We are fortunate that Robert has been treated at DFCI and the Jimmy Fund Clinic. The people and the care we have received here have been outstanding in every sense of the word.
Throughout Robert’s ordeal we have learned a great deal about this terrible disease and the efforts that are underway to find a cure. Cancer is relentless and defeating it requires compassionate, caring people and enormous resources. The PMC is helping to lead this fight with 100% of funds raised by the riders going directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s tireless commitment to finding a cure. I’m riding to help find this cure and I appreciate your support--- together we are closer by the mile!
