Here we go again! Why? Because this event raises the largest single donation for Dana Farber each year, and as a result, is truly leading the charge to beat cancer. More importantly, this is the One In a Billion Year - the PMC has raised $972 million for Dana Farber since 1980, positioning the PMC to cross a monumental $1 billion in cumulative fundraising for the Institute in 2024. There is no question that cancer sucks - it's a disease that has touched the lives of many near and dear over the past few years, including my mom, many colleagues, their families and friends. Again this year, I have chosen to dedicate my ride in memory of Jack Fong, the 7- year old son of a dear colleague who passed away on December 31, 2021 from a brain tumor, Diffuse MIdline Glioma (DMG) - a universally fatal pediatric brain tumor that strikes 200-400 children in the United States each year. These grade 4 tumors are extremely aggressive and fast-growing, with median overall survival of eight to eleven months from the time of diagnosis. Today, less than 10% will survive beyond two years from diagnoses and less than 1% survive beyond five years. As in the past 2 years, 100% of your contribution will go to Dr. Mariella Filbin, an amazing and passionate doctor whom I've had the privilege of getting to know. She, along with amazing team, is dedicating her life's work to improving these statistics. I am privileged to have served as a trustee of Dana Farber for the past 4 years, during which time I have realized how fortunate I am to be associated with such an incredible and impactful institution.
With much gratitude for any amount you are willing to contribute to support the cause - Fatima
