In August this year, I have decided to ride a bicycle for 100 miles in support of cancer research. I am riding in honour of my incredible father, whose strength and courage during his journey through treatment this year has inspired me to take action.

Over the 10 years that I have been training in and practicing medicine I have been exposed to countless patients suffering through their fights with cancer. This disease is a growing cause of death and disability around the world. Roughly 18 million times a year, a human sits down to be told that their life is in peril. A blindside. A nightmare that cannot be woken up from. And after this moment, nothing will be the same as before. Their stories cannot be condensed, and each one remains clearly in my memory. Without the tireless work of cancer researchers, such as those at the world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, us professionals would not have the life-saving treatment options that we do... but there is still a long way to go before the fight is over.
