Why I Ride ...
When I ride the bike, I have a lot of time to think; time to both reflect and plan. In fact, it is one of the things I enjoy most about riding. The 10+ hours in the saddle at the PMC provides that opportunity. Every year, I reflect on my sisters’, Paula’s and Carol’s, lives and how they impacted me, my family, and their families. I also think of others that I have known who are no longer with us because of cancer. As you might imagine that is always an emotional roller-coaster, but it is an “amusement ride” I look forward to each year as our busy lives consume our days and the luxury of reflection. I think of those who are winning their struggles with cancer, and I think of the hundreds of individuals riding, volunteering, and standing along the road cheering for a loved one who is winning, struggling, or lost. I reflect on my wealth of family and friends, the true richness of life, and on the generosity of all who contribute to this and all charities. I find all of this joyful and an affirmation of human good against the endless news cycle of human frailties. My wish for you all is that you find/make the time to do something joyful.
