Why I Ride ...
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. I'm riding with The Nathanisms. We ride to honor and support Nathan, a brave 12 year-old battling an incurable brain tumor. We ride to support CUTTING EDGE RESEARCH that will lead to new therapies for Nathan and other brave kids battling this disease. Several new drugs are in clinical trials now funded by your donations. One of these, TAK580, is working for NATHAN and we need to keep it going. Your continued support is essential to bringing these life-saving new medicines to the kids. The research has already changed the standard of care for many children, and it is thanks to the money we have raised together. Just think how much more we can still accomplish.
This is year three! I'm so proud of our team for crushing our fundraising goals. We're working hard because we want to make sure that more and more kids are able to get access to TAK580 and other transformational drugs. Every dollar we raise makes life-changing drugs available to more kids. Please join me!
I'll be riding to Provincetown in memory of (among so many others):
- Grandma Dorothy - Who saw me in ways others didn't. Wo gave me a love of doing things from scratch. Who took me on adventures. Who died of breast cancer just weeks before my birthday.
- Grandma Kidd - Who I never met. Who taught my dad the power of strong women. Who died of colon cancer just months before I was born.
- Andrew - Who loved baseball and his family and friends. Who was so deeply generous and kind. Who taught me about leaving powerfully. Who died of Neuroblastoma at 15.
- Aunt Suzanne - Who found a special place in Provincetown and, I hope, will be helping me across the finish line even though colon cancer meant we never got to explore P-town together.
- Aunt Libby - Who fought hard for herself and so many students.
And for the living proof in my life. Here are just a few.
- Andy - Who loves birds, his brilliant kid and wife, and his lawn and gardens.
- Danielle - Who inspires me with her travels and ferocity.
- Mary - Who is always the calm, steady force.
- Nancy - Who always leads with her heart.
- Alice - Who exudes warmth and home.
- Millie - Who became my sister because of cancer and will make me an aunt again this summer.
Finally, I ride because of my dad - who still guides my journey (he was my first call when this crazy idea got lodged in my brain). He didn't just teach me to love to ride. He taught me how to ride through discomfort and pain, to not give up even when the climbs feel so steep my brain wants to get off and walk, and which Vermont general stores make the best pit stops on long rides. Thanks, dad!
