After a two year hiatus, I am once again joining my dad in riding the Pan Mass Challenge in support of Dana Farber, and, more specifically the Center for Salivary and Rare Head and Neck Cancers at DFCI. Over my four past PMC years, I have had the privilege of raising over $88,000 in the hope of finding new treatments and eventually cures for rare head and neck cancers like Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. This year, I hope to be able to cross the $100,000 lifetime raise.
In 2021, we witnessed first hand the limitations of current treatments for rare cancers such as ACC. My mother, Ebit Speers, chose to stop treatment for her cancer following 9 clinical trials over 5 and a half years. We spent a special summer free of appointments and hospital stays and full of family, old friends, and long days at our beloved Squam lake before she passed away on October 16, 2021 at sunset. She had battled ACC for 30 years, which at the time of her passing made up more than half of her life.
This year, I will be riding the full two day route from Sturbridge to Provincetown for the first time. I will be riding again as a part of Team Crank who, thanks to a VERY generous sponsor, gets matching funds for every dollar raised. With this match, Team Crank raised over $1M last year alone and over $3.9M total since 2012.
Please contribute, if you can, for all of the Ebit’s out there and for the life saving research of Dana Farber to bring us more time with the ones we love.
