Friends and Family,
On Saturday, August 5th, I will be riding in the 2023 Pan-Mass Challenge for my 14th consecutive year. My goal is to raise $10,000 in celebration of my 10th year riding for the Flatley Foundation Team. Thanks to the Foundation’s continued support, my campaign is already off to a strong start, but I will need help from the rest of my community to reach the finish line.
Looking back on the last decade, we have had over 50 different riders on our team, (not to mention the myriad of friends and family who volunteer their time,) as well as hundreds if not thousands of donors who have supported our team over this span.
While we see many familiar faces return to the team, we are also proud to be joined by so many new supporters each year. Not everyone rides every year, but each person contributes in their own unique way and that is the beauty of a community such as this one. We cannot all be everything for everyone, but if we work together we can do anything for anyone.
Case in point: who would have thought 43 years ago that a group of cyclists riding across Massachusetts could end up raising over 90 million dollars that would enable Dana-Farber to build breakthroughs in cancer research? I am sure many would have been skeptical of Billy Starr’s vision, but with the community of the Bay Colony and beyond it became possible.
By myself, I am just one person on a bike riding down to Cape Cod, but with my team, the volunteers, and your support, we form something much stronger. I consider myself lucky to be on such an amazing team and to be a part of such an amazing event.
So please do your part however you can, whether that’s a donation, a kind note, or a positive thought in our team’s direction, we appreciate any and all of it. Each and every dollar you donate goes directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. If you’ve already donated to another rider or team, THANK YOU! At the end of the day the money is all going to the same cause!
Donations to the PMC are tax deductible and can be made online at http://www2.pmc.org/profile/EM0144. If you prefer to write a check, please make it out to the PMC, The Jimmy Fund or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and mail it to my home address: 232 E. 12th Street, Apt. 3C, New York, NY 10003. If your employer has a matching gift program, please ask the HR department for the form and follow the steps for matching gifts.f
Thank you for your support,
-Evan Metzold
