Hello Friends,
It's hard to believe, but this year marks PMC #20 for me!!! On August 2nd and 3rd I will do it again as I ride 162 miles from Wellesley to P-Town with TEAM FLAMES. TEAM FLAMES has over 100 riders in 2025 -- many are cancer survivors, and some are undergoing treatment this year. Several teammates are docs and nurses from Dana Farber, and many FLAMES cyclists are their patients. It is truly an inspirational group--in 2023 alone, Team FLAMES raised nearly $1.3M! And since the inception of TEAM FLAMES in 2002 (started by friend and cancer survivor, Cindy Hale) TEAM FLAMES has raised over $10.5M - just our team alone!! That kind of money REALLY makes a difference!
Each year, our team has aligned itself with a family of a child undergoing cancer treatment-- known as our “Pedal Partner”. This year we are celebrating all of our past Pedal Partners, starting with our first Pedal Partner, Valerie, who is now 33 years old and recently graduated with her PhD. in statistics!! The Pedal Partner program connects riders with a family and provides a little relief and fun considering what they are going through.
The past few years, (and especially the past 6 months) have been particularly difficult for cancer research funding. The world is changing, and yet the basics of cancer research and need hasn’t wavered. The PMC funding, of which 100% goes directly to DFCI, is more important than ever. The need won't go away until we win this fight.
