Hello Friends,
It's hard to believe, but this marks the 19th year that I have trained for and cycled in the Pan-Mass Challenge! On August 3rd and 4th I will do it again as I ride 162 miles from Wellesley to P-Town with TEAM FLAMES. TEAM FLAMES has over 100 riders in 2024 -- many are cancer survivors, and some are undergoing treatment this year. Several teammates are docs and nurses from Dana Farber, and many FLAMES cyclists are their patients. It is truly an inspirational group--in 2023 alone, Team FLAMES raised nearly $1.3M! And since the inception of TEAM FLAMES in 2002 (started by friend and cancer survivor, Cindy Hale) TEAM FLAMES has raised over $10.5M - just our team alone!! That kind of money REALLY makes a difference!
Every year, our team aligns with a family of a child undergoing cancer treatment-- known as our “Pedal Partner”. In 2024 we are partnering with the family of 7 year old Zoey, who lives in Londonderry, NH. Zoey is currently undergoing treatment at The Jimmy Fund Clinic for T-ALL, a form of leukemia. On June 25, we will ride to Zoey's house to show our support and celebrate her strength by chalking up her driveway and decorating her yard. Zoey will take a spin on her bike with us -- if she's feeling up to it that day. Zoey and all the kids who receive treatment at the Jimmy Fund, need our help- they are such little warriors!
The past four years have been particularly vulnerable years for cancer research funding. The world is changing, and yet the basics of cancer research and need hasn’t wavered. The PMC funding, of which 100% goes directly to DFCI, is more important than ever. The need won't go away until we win this fight.
Please consider a donation to support my fundraising effort. And please ask if your company matches donations (it really makes a big difference and your donation goes so much further). I have committed to raise $7,500. In past years, I could not have achieved this goal without the financial support of every one of you. And I would like to have your support again......
So please, donate to the PMC this year so that others may benefit from the important research being done at Dana-Farber. Please click below, or if you prefer to donate by check, please send it to me made payable to PMC @ 16 Stowell Road, Winchester, MA 01890.
Thank you!!
Elena
