So Why Ride?
We are now a little over three years removed from the start of our own cancer fight.
Three years from The Call .
You know The Call.
The Call that something didn't look quite right. The Call to set up a biopsy. The Call with the results we didn't want to hear. The Call to meet with the surgeon. The Call to ..... well, you know how it goes.
It's all good now thanks to great treatment from The Dana Farber Cancer Institute and our great oncologist Dr Otto Metzger. Upon meeting Dr Metzger three years or so ago, he immediately put us at ease. He said This is just a Bump in the Road.
Eight words which set us at ease and gave my family (and friends) a motto to live by. Eight simple words which lightened the crushing weight we all felt.
So here we are once again anxiously awaiting the start of another PMC (#8). I gotta say the roads continue to look different these days. The cheers heard at the PMC from the crowds lining the streets carry a personal meaning. I am no longer just a fundraiser. My family is the very grateful recipient and benefactor of the world class treatment provided by The Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Now when I ask for money it's paying it foward.
It is very simple. We need to keep the cash flowing in so that the treatment available to you, your family, your friends, etc keeps getting better.
The Bump in the Road is getting smaller and smaller in our rear view mirror.
Thank you Dana Farber.
Thank you to all the nurses and staff whose unbelievably passionate care made our journey very palatable.
Thank you Dr. Otto for providing a crutch to lean on and a beaming light to brighten our darkness when we needed it the most.
This is why I ride.
