My Mission:
I will be a part of the Crus11Tour team, made up of over 100 riders, raising money in honor of Davey Hovey. Davey was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme in 2015 at age 25. Davey created the Crus11tour during his fight against the disease.
On a more personal level, my mom was diagnosed with Sezary Disease, a specific and rare form of T-Cell Lymphoma in 2017. Sezary Disease is treatable, yet not curable. Alongside my incredible mom and dad, we ride to help find the cure.
I am also always riding in honor of my aunt Sarah Bailey Doggett who lost her fight to breast cancer in June of 2019. Sarah was one of the strongest women I will ever know, and I ride to help carry on her shining legacy. Sarah was an outstanding wife, mother, and aunt and I am lucky to have shared so many memories with her each summer in Chatham, Cape Cod.
The money I raise will go towards both Glioblastoma and Sezary Disease cancer research at Dana Farber. Thank you so much for supporting me and the fight to end cancer!
Sezary Disease:
My mom, Kimberly Formisano, was diagnosed in 2017 with a rare form of blood cancer that targets white blood cells, otherwise known as T-Cells, which then become cancerous. My mom couragously battled the disease with various treatments that have allowed her to stay incredibly optimistic, active, and as always, driven. That being said, Sezary Disease remains incurable and is a very underfunded cancer. Alongside my mom, we are riding the 168 miles to raise money for the cure.
CRUS11TOUR:
CRUS11TOUR is the name that David (Davey) Hovey gave to his battle against Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. CRUS11TOUR is derived from his determination to “crush” this horrible disease and incorporates his St. Lawrence lacrosse number, “11,” as well as his love of golf and the PGA Tour.
Davey was 25 years old when he was diagnosed in October 2015 and he fought bravely through 5 brain surgeries, over 20 seizures, and many rounds of treatments. Sadly, Davey passed away after a courageous 16-month battle.
He left behind a loving family and many close friends, all of whom admired his grit & grace and have vowed to keep his CRUS11TOUR legacy alive. His strength and competitive spirit have motivated many to raise money for important brain cancer research.
The CRUS11TOUR mission is to raise critical funds to support brain cancer research with a specific focus on Glioblastoma. This is a niche brain cancer where research funding and pharmaceutical support is limited. The money raised through CRUS11TOUR goes to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for brain cancer research, specifically being conducted by Davey’s doctor, Dr. David Reardon.
Davey taught us many valuable lessons during his battle with cancer: the importance of family and friends, giving back, and always to “keep the faith”! CRUS11TOUR never ends!
