I ride the PMC because it gives me a chance to fight in the war on cancer!

Research is going on right now at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute that will one day defeat cancer forever. But equally importantly, Dana-Farber’s research is bringing to the market today ingenious new therapies that are improving the lives of cancer patients around the world! Some of these therapies enlist a patient’s immune system to attack tumors, and others understand and utilize the genetic makeup of a tumor to attack that tumor extremely effectively, without the debilitating side effects of chemotherapies used in the past!

As over half of the revenue raised by Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund comes from the PMC, it is very possible that the next big breakthrough in the war on cancer will come from research done by Dana-Farber and funded by this summer’s PMC ride!

On a personal note, some time back I was talking with a friend whose son was in remission after a battle with leukemia.  My friend was describing the physical toll that chemotherapy had taken on his son, then he expressed his gratitude that we’re living now and not twenty years ago when cancer treatments were much more harsh and debilitating.  “And you know,” he continued, “twenty years from now they’ll be even better!”
