I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. I ride for Pedals for Pediatrics.
As a pediatric oncologist at the Dana-Farber, I practice at a time of incredible progress in an absolutely outstanding institute. Yet each day, while I'm reminded of the progress made in this field, I am also reminded that our treatments either fall short for many children and young adults, or when successful, come with often profound permanent side-effects.
I ride for these young people, who inspire me each day, facing their disease and their treatments with incredible courage and grace. I feel privileged to be able to care for them as part of a team at the Dana-Farber dedicated to simultaneously offering the best available care, and pushing the field forward, developing new, more effective and less toxic treatments.
Precision 4 Kids and Young Adults: This year I have transitioned to the Precision 4 Kids and Young Adults PMC team. Our team, initially galvanized around Dr. Katie Janeways groundbreaking genomic research, is dedicated to pushing forward genomic medicine for children and young adults with advanced cancers. Together we ride to raise funds to support research into the genomic underpinnings of these aggressive cancers. As we undercover key genomic vulnerabilities, we unlock new more effective and less toxic means of treating these aggressive diseases. Your support is critical to pushing these efforts forward.
