Oh how time flies! I don’t know how we got here, but I have officially registered for my 18th Pan- Mass Challenge ride. Life and work have been very busy, and in February, we lost our beloved dog of almost 10 years to an aggressive cancer known as Hemangiosarcoma. By the time he showed any symptoms, he was gone in less than 24 hours. As a family, we’ve been working through that grief, and trying to regain a new normalcy as we move forward.
Now that the warmer weather is returning, spring soccer has ended, and school is wrapping up, I’m anxious to get outside and get some decent miles in on my bike. For the ride, I’ve chosen a challenging, yet manageable ride for this year’s event. It will be a 50 mile round-trip ride out of Babson College through Patriot Place in Foxboro. The majority of the route is over roads I’m intimately familiar with and have been riding on for years. For the second part, this is where I count on the people who have supported me in raising over $75,000 throughout the last 17 years. Although my responsibility is less, I aim to raise the $4000+ needed to raise my lifetime fundraising to $80,000. Thanks to some sponsors who were quicker than I was, I’m already on my way to achieving this.
As with every year, the bike ride is the ultimate reward. The work is raising the critical funds needed to support the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Last year the PMC raised $72,000,000 including 100% of all rider-raised funds. As always, there is still a lot of work to be done and with that being said, the bar is being raised again. This year’s overall goal is a staggering $75,000,000. This will bring the total dollars raised over 1 billion!!! It’s a huge amount of money, but if I’ve learned anything over the years, with this group of people, anything is possible.
Once again I humbly ask for your support in reaching my/our goals for this year. No donation is too small (or too large) and you can rest assured that every last cent will go to Dana Farber for vital cancer research and patient care. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Oliver, this ride is for you, buddy!
