I'm riding in the 2024 PMC in honor of, and alongside, my mother and hero, Tara, who kicked cancer 11 years ago. This will be her 11th PMC, and her first as a member of Team Domestiques. She RIDES because she CAN!
I am also riding this year's PMC in honor of my colleague and friend Scott Freeman, who lost his battle against cancer late last year, in memory of Mike Pyburn, who lost his battle in 2020, and for all the future cancer patients yet to be diagnosed. My mother is living proof that the research by the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is saving lives. She is one of the lucky ones, and more patients join her rank as survivors every year, day, and second because of the incredible work being done by this institute.
It’s saddening to know that everyone reading this likely has a personal story of a loved one who has been afflicted by this disease, if they have not been tormented themselves. Over the past five years, I have added names to my list of those I ride for. However, I have never been more hopeful than today that this statement will not ring true in the decades to come. Breakthroughs are happening every day, and the future of cancer treatment and prevention is rapidly progressing.
I’m forever grateful to past researchers whose work has afforded me the opportunity to ride this year alongside my mother, and granted my sons the gift of growing up with a healthy, active, and loving Lala. I’m riding to do my small part in ensuring that others receive that same gift.
The PMC is leading a charge to beat cancer and 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure. Thank you in advance for considering donating. No amount is too small to fight this wicked disease!
