Dear friends and family,
I’m reaching out today as I wanted to let you know that I did complete the 50 mile ride - always a challenge to myself - and to thank you for your encouragement and/or donation to PMC 2024. We raise funds for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
This year I joined the Stem Cell Cyclists team which focuses our donations on efforts to improve the effecitveness of stem cell transplants. I met some wonderful people in this group and in the same breath, made a direct connection to this work with sister Amy's most recent successful health challenge. The research and work done at Dana Farber do make a difference in people's lives. Even some we know !
And further, I was surprised to learn that there are quite a few riders that are actively being treated for cancer and strong enough to ride. Found that inspiring !
I ride ... in memory of my beloved mother, Doris, my dear sister Joan and in honor of my sister Amy ! who continues to thrive as a 3x cancer survivor and living proof; YES, clear and demonstrive proof of the efrfectiveness of the oncology medical science that you support.
In Memory of my sister Joan, I ride: a twenty year breast cancer fighter - may her memory be a blessing to all. Appreciative of all of the medical breakthroughs that have occurred over the past 50 years that have extended the lives and quality of life of so many. Thankful for all of this extended time with her and thankful for all of the life extending therapies and personal support that she was able to leverage. Her leading-edge treatment options were only made possible by the good work being done in cancer research at Dana-Farber and similar facilities around the world. I ride to celebrate her life and other family thrivers!
In memory of my mother - Doris, I ride. She filled our hearts with love and caring about one another and the world around us. In her battles with metastic breast cancer, she was treated with first generation (pretty experimental) chemotherapy techniques. It was a time - back in the 70's - in which medical science was beginning to ramp up its efforts to more fully understand cancer and improve treatment options. I have my mother to thank and countless others for the experimental treatments that they endured. Their efforts and the research that continues help save the lives of my sisters and all that are effected by this challenging disease.
I ride to raise money to help continue this important research so that all of our families touched by cancer can achieve better outcomes - it is happening !
I ride to honor the researchers in wonder of their work as I find it quite amazing how many people today diagnosed with cancer lead long and productive lives.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. 100% of rider-raised revenue goes directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
I also ride to stay healthy as I train and challenge my fitness level so that I can continue to do this good fund raising work.
Finally, I ride to honor and thank you for your donation to the PMC. Your contrubutions continue to motivate me to ride again!
All the best to you and yours and Stay Healthy !
Dave
