Dear Friends and Family,
It's PMC 2025! That time of year again—the beautiful summer and a perfect opportunity to support the Pan-Mass Challenge, the largest single charity fundraising event in the country. I’m reaching out during the PMC weekend to help support this vital cancer research initiative. With federal research funding on the decline, your local contributions are more important than ever. The funds we raise support cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
I am proud to ride with the Stem Cell Cyclists team. We focus our donations on improving the effectiveness of stem cell transplants. In this group, I've met some incredible people and, personally, felt a deep connection to the cause through my sister Amy’s recent successful battle and recovery - she is a thriver! The work being done at Dana-Farber is truly making a difference in people's lives—even those we know!
I ride in memory of my beloved mother, Doris, my dear sister Joan, and in honor of my sister Amy, who continues to thrive as a three-time cancer survivor and living proof of the effectiveness of the oncology medical science that your support helps fund.
In Memory of My Sister Joan:
A 20-year breast cancer fighter, Joan’s memory is a blessing to all who knew her. I’m grateful for the medical breakthroughs of the past 50 years that have extended the lives and improved the quality of life for so many. The therapies Joan benefited from were made possible by research and support from institutions like Dana-Farber. I ride to celebrate her life and honor other family members who continue to thrive.
In Memory of My Mother, Doris:
My mother filled our hearts with love, compassion, and care for one another. During her battle with metastatic breast cancer, she was treated with first-generation chemotherapy, which was still in its experimental stages in the 70s. It was a time when medical science was just beginning to make significant strides in understanding cancer and improving treatments. I owe a great deal to my mother and to those who endured experimental treatments. Their courage laid the foundation for the advances we benefit from today, helping save the lives of my sisters and so many others affected by this disease.
Why I Ride:
I ride to raise money for cancer research so that families like yours and ours can experience better outcomes. The work being done is making a difference! I also ride to honor the researchers who are transforming the way cancer is treated and helping so many people live long, productive lives. Their work is nothing short of amazing.
As a proud supporter of the PMC, I’m inspired by the fact that 100% of rider-raised funds go directly to the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s tireless commitment to finding a cure. I also ride to stay healthy, training and challenging my fitness level so that I can continue this important fundraising work.
Finally, I ride to express my deep gratitude for your support. Your donations continue to inspire me to ride again, year after year.
Thank you for your generosity. Stay healthy, and all the best to you and yours!
Warm regards,
Dave
