This coming weekend, August 2^nd and 3rd,  I will be riding in my 10th Pan-Mass Challenge.  The PMC has turned into the premier sports/fundraising event in the country.  The Pan-Mass Challenge raises money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and is a major financial contributor in the fight against cancer.  This year the PMC is expected to raise $38 Million.  As in years past my bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown (190 miles over 2 days) will be in memory of Leslie Semonian.  I am riding to raise money for Leslie's Links, a charity Leslie established before she passed away in 1999 www.leslieslinks.com .  Leslie's Links raises money to fund research for Ewing's Sarcoma, the same cancer that Leslie battled for so long.  Due to the continued generosity of everyone who supports me and Leslie’s Links Fund, Dr. Demetri at Dana Farber has been able to make remarkable progress and discoveries in cancer research. 

Although my rides over 10 years have always raised money for Leslie’s Links,  the past few years I have been riding in support of my cousin Jay.  Jay was battling cancer, it started as a small spot in his foot and seemed innocent enough.  As time went on it spread up his leg and throughout his entire body.  During this entire time Jay remained a loving husband, father and cousin.  His attitude was always upbeat and positive.  For someone that had every reason to complain, he never did. He never asked anyone for anything, he just worked hard each and every day at battling cancer with an incredible will to survive.  The brother that I had grown up idolizing was once again teaching me about how to live your life. 

On August 31, 2013 Jay lost his battle.  To this day these words are hard to write and even tougher to say.  For all 190 miles this coming weekend I will be remembering and honoring the person I admired the most.
