Why I Ride
The answer to this question is extremely emotional and difficult to articulate. I have struggled with putting my reasons and feelings into words. The bottom line is, make no mistake about it, fundraising is the main focus of the PMC. As the PMC Website perfectly explains The PMC's mission is to raise funds for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to Dana-Farber.
Over the years I have witnessed the most amazing people and families struggle with the difficulties of this disease. I am sure as you read this you can honestly say that you have had the same experience. Some of you have lost parents, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, siblings, extended family members, close friends, strong support/positive role models, etc. The list goes on. Over the years I have also strongly supported various fundraisers with hopes to help ease the pain and suffering as well as to help fund research.
One of the Teams/Organizations I have supported is The Arlington Angels. Our tight nit community suffered the tragic loss of three of our dearest young adults. Patrick Doherty, Matthew Griffin and Catherine Malatesta fought extremely hard. Their families and friends were with them every step of the way. In response to this agonizing loss, The Arlington Angels was established and will be riding in its fifth PMC the first weekend of August 2024. The Arlington Angels is now striving to achieve the goal of over One Million Dollars raised as a Team scince its inception this 2024 PMC.
Recently two of the most strongest individuals I have ever had the privilege of calling my friend and loved one lost their battle, after showing incredible poise and strength. The fond memories of both Cheryl Segreve and Dan Kelly, as well as the courageous approach to their treatment, will forever be in my heart. The pain and impact to their families and friends was, and is again, incredibly hard to bear. I personally felt like I needed to do more. I joined the Team that I have supported from its start with hopes that I could contribute more to this cause.
I have also witnessed the amazing treatment and recovery of dear friends and loved ones. This is a direct result of the work and research being performed by organizations such as the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Recently we were informed that our own Team Captain has completed his treatment and will be returning to ride in this years PMC. We are all so very proud of our Captain and are honored to ride with him this year!
The Arlington Angels are poised to achieve the One Million Dollars raised mark scince its inception this 2024 PMC. Even more amazing is that the PMC is poised to achieve the One Billion Dollars raised mark this 2024 PMC. All of this is possible by the many riders, vollunteers and, most importantly, generous donators that support and contribute to the success of the PMC.
I ride for all the people that have lost their lives, for all the people that are fighting the fight at this very moment, and for all the family and friends that are doing everything in their power to get through what is the most difficult of times. I humbly ask that you support Team Arlington Angels, and myself, in our goal to continue the fundraising efforts for the research and treatment being done at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Sincerely,
David W Moran
