Why I Ride ...
This will be my 21st consecutive year riding in the PMC! I started this when my nephew was being treated at Dana Farber by an amazing team of doctors and nurses and have been riding every year since then. This weekend long event brings thousands of riders and volunteers together each year to raise a tremendous amount of money to go towards research and treatment of all types of cancer and to support the outstanding work being done at Dana Farber. If all goes as planned, this year will be incredible as we collectively should reach over $1 billion dollars in fundraising throughout the history of this mission.
The reasons for continuing to ride and fundraise are obvious as each year more and more friends, coworkers or loved ones come face to face with a cancer diagnosis. We are reminded each and every day how precious this life is and how sudden it can turn with a cancer diagnosis. Last year this hit very close to home when a dear friend and sorority sister of my wife lost her life to cancer despite the best efforts by her doctors at Dana Farber. This year I will once again pay tribute to Laura Kaplan and her family and the many others that have been impacted by this terrible disease.
The outpouring of emotion is unmatched and is incredibly powerful to experience as we collectively pedal our butts off to kick cancer to the curb. That is why I ride and that is why I will continue to come back each and every year.
