Twenty five years ago, I lost my mother to cancer. I delayed my senior year at Williams College to care for her during her battle. I would not trade the time I spent with her for anything. When she died, the brightest guiding light in my life went out. She was, and her memory remains, the bedrock of my life. Every single day I miss her. Her smile, her laugh, her guidance, her company, her comfort.

I would bet that every person reading has lost someone similar. Has had that pang when they realize that the person they wanted to share that joke with, that story with, that picture with, that news with, that victory with, is no longer here.
