Why I PMC

This is why I ride..

Dearest Family and Friends,

My journey with the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) started back in 2008. I was about 8 months out from my last chemo and wanted to give back in some way. Each year since then I've participated as a rider and raised funds for cancer research and therapies because it's the one quiet and positive thing I can do. As an 18-year cancer survivor I feel privileged to be a part of the PMC. I have a firm commitment to the mission which is profoundly dependent on funding.

Today, we are in a climate of economic uncertainty and science is under attack. The proposed 40% cuts to the NIH budgets will have a great impact on cancer research, clinical trials, treatments, and lives saved. NIH grants fuel this science. These funds do not sit in an endowment, they are at work in the labs and clinics. Brilliant scientists pursue their boldest ideas and address the comprehensive needs of patients. This means early detection, prevention and treatment. Losing those funds and/or the people who utilize them means slowing down the momentum in our fight against cancer. This is not politics. This is personal. Patients are the ones to pay the price. That is why this fundraising effort matters more than ever!

I ride my bike to raise money. But just as importantly, I ride to protect this progress.
New Discoveries = New Hope...and an eventual cure for all kinds of cancers.

Please join me in giving people with cancer the hope they deserve. Thank you to everyone who is moved to donate, whatever the amount. We are all in this together.
