Dear Friends,
This past weekend, August 6th & 7th, I will be rode in my sixth Pan Mass Challenge. After learning about this incredible event through Christina (who is a cancer survivor and twelfth time participant in this ride); I set a stretch goal to go for it while raising money for this amazing cause. Every dollar raised in the 2 day, 200 mile event goes directly towards fighting cancer. The ride starts in Sturbridge, MA and ends up in Provincetown, MA. One of the most incredible facts is that every donor dollar raised goes directly to Dana Farber.
Most of you are aware that Christina is a colon cancer survivor and has the Lynch Syndrome gene which is a mutation that effects the ovaries, breast, colon, uterine, stomach and intestines. I am proud to be riding in her honor and to do all I can to help prevent her and others in the future from this horrible disease.
TeamBrent, my team, was put together because in September of 2004 when then 2 year old Brent was diagnosed with stage iv Neuroblastoma. There is no way to explain the shock and horror of having someone tell you your child has cancer. There is no way to explain having to watch your child in pain and suffering through treatments to save his or her life. It is our great hope no one else will ever have to go through that. That is why we ride. We believe that Together We Can Make a Difference.
While overall Pan-Mass Challenge funds go towards fighting cancer in general at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, TeamBrent's monies are targeted towards fighting neuroblastoma, the childhood cancer that Brent battled. The PMC is amazing and the fight against cancer has meant significant advances. TeamBrent is just the tiniest part of that ($6.1 million over 18 years) yet we can see tangible progress in the fight. Over half (60%) of children with high risk neuroblastoma are cured today vs. 15% just 14 years ago.
The Pan Mass Challenge raises more money than any other single charity event in the country, $900 million since 1980. We aim to raise $66 million this year alone! And because every penny matters, 100 percent of your donation goes to Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Please support me in this event and give to Dana Farber. Just like last year, I've decided to give extra incentivie to everybody. I will match all funds donated by my family in friends. Together lets help make a difference. $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1000 and more. No donation is too small or too great!
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
All my best,
David Keelan
