I have always enjoyed the community bond of athletic events. People of all different ages and capabilities coming together to concur a common physical challenge. These events create an energy you can't replicate in any other way.
When I signed up to ride in my first PMC in 2023, I was excited to be a part of such an infamous event hosted right in my backyard. Starting at Babson College (my Alma mater), riding through Foxboro (my childhood hometown), and finishing on Cape Cod (my favorite place in the world). I had always heard stories of the PMC and I was excited to see what the experience was all about.
After the 2-day 160 mile ride, I realized something: the PMC is different.
When running a marathon or other road race, you constantly hear 'you can do it' by the supporters along the road. When riding in the PMC, all you hear is 'THANK YOU'. It was these 'thank yous' that made me quickly realize that the PMC has a greater purpose. It is not about the ride. It is not about the personal challenge. The PMC has always been about one thing: beating cancer.
Cancer is something that unfortunately has impacted all of us. It is this common enemy that uniquely brings together our community to concur the PMC's challenge; finding a cure.
