Why I Ride ...
For the fourth year in a row I will join over 5,000 riders and more than 3,000 volunteers in the Pan Mass Challenge as a member of Team Natixis. This 2-day, 165 mile bike ride from Wellesley, MA on Saturday August 4th, to the finish line in Provincetown, MA on Sunday August 5th is the single largest athletic fundraising event in the country and 100% of all donations go to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to fund cancer research, everything else is covered by corporate sponsors. This year, the PMC has set a fundraising goal of $36,000,000.
In 2011, the PMC raised over $34,000,000 for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Thanks to your support last year Team Natixis was able to raise over $65,000 for cancer research with a much smaller team than we have had in previous years. This year we have more riders and a fundraising goal of $90,000. I realize there are a lot of good causes and fundraising activities that are competing for your attention and your donations. But, please realize that your donation, of any amount, will go directly to the funding of cancer research and bring us that much closer to finding a cure for this disease that affects everyone.
I am riding this year in honor of my kids and their continued health and happiness. I am also riding in support of cancer research and particularly for research to cure children’s cancers. The Jimmy Fund has been integral to the success of treatment for once-incurable childhood cancers for more than 58 years. Today, due in part to Dr. Sidney Farber's groundbreaking work at Dana-Farber, overall cure rates for children's cancers have reached more than 75 percent (and up to 90 percent for some forms of the disease).
And, as always, I am riding in memory of my friend Billy Keane.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
