Hello friends and family,
Team More Cowbell is hitting the road again and I cannot think of a better day to kick off my Pan Mass Challenge fundraising in ernest than June 1st, Global Day of Parents! Dad, this one's for you!
This year, PMC riders are expected to not only safely cross the finish line, but also reach 1 billion dollars in cummulative cancer research fundraising since its inception in 1980! Thank you for considering sponsoring my 7th ride!
So many of you have faithfully supported my ride and I hate to ask again, but here I am! A donation of even five dollars would mean so much to our team and this cause. If you have not sponsored me before, please consider doing so now.
It's never too late to support Team More Cowbell! New members are always welcome!
You can donate to my PMC donation page located at:
Profile Page: http://pmc.org/DF0244
Reminder to ask your employer if they match charitable contributions and also remember that donations are tax deductible.
Once again, I (we) ride on behalf of many many people who have lost the battle, continue to fight, or may face this cancer in the future. There have been some heartbreaking losses this year, so please let me know if I can ride on behalf of someone you know and cared for. It would be an honor.
Among those are my Dad who fought bravely and who I miss every day:
William J. Flanagan, BA and MA from BC in Business Administration, 1st lieutenant United States Army 1955-1959, loving husband to Judith, father of eight, passed away August 1995 following a battle with colon cancer. I wish we had more time together, but I'm sure he's proud how we all turned out.
And we ride for so many others:
Robert F. Arnold, my good friend Kate Arnold's Dad. Sadly, Kate's Dad passed away at the age of 83 due to a heart condition, but bravely fought Merkel Cell Carcinoma for an extended period of time. Us Cowbells are proud to ride in his memory.
Bridget Young: David, please ride for my friends who have lost the battle: Chet C., Mary D., Alan W., Sam L. (fighter who was just lost 6/16/18), and our survivor Lorraine Y.
Cowbells will proudly ride on behalf of Andrea L Castro who lost her father: My daddy lost his life to pancreatic cancer in February of 2021 after surviving colon cancer in 2013. I miss him every day and I hope that your ride helps many patients who truly need it. Sending you love David. Andrea, the Cowbells return your love tenfold!
Bernice Clare Davis, my Mom’s mom, my Nana. Though she died at the age of 81 due to complications from diabetes, she survived breast, uterine and rectal cancer. I’m not sure how she managed this in1949 but she did. Still, I never knew this until I brought up the PMC ride with my Mom and she opened up about her own mother. Very proud of these strong and brave women.
Devere H. Congress (Dee) of Sanibel Island, FL, passed away in August of 2008 following a battle with sarcoma. I met Dee when I was a senior CRC at DFCI and she quickly gained most favored patient status. An amazingly positive soul who taught me to live in the moment, forget the past, and not to sweat the future. I know all prayers cannot be answered, but I do miss her and hope our paths cross again.
