As a member of the Fidelity PMC Team, we dedicate our funding to research for a rare and underfunded strain of brain cancer that affects children. Thankfully, the ongoing research by Dana-Farber in this area is making a differnce. Our pedal partner, who provides us with boundless inspiration, continues to be Willa Mooney. She is a bright and optimistic, now 9 year old, that has relentlessly battled this disease for years through chemotherapy. I am grateful to report that the treatments have been successful and she is now off-treatment, though continuing to be monitored by Dana Farber. On a recent Zoom call, we asked Willa what she has learned from her challenges? She resplied: “When things get hard, don’t slow down”. I think that says it all!

Team Fidelity has raised over $3 million for Dana Farber over the years, directing our fund raising toward pediatric low-grade astrocytoma cancer research (brain tumors in children). Brain tumors and central nervous system tumors are the most common cancer in U.S. children under age 14. They are also the most common cause of cancer death. We have been told directly by the research staff that our fund raising is making a difference; new treatments are being developed and their success is steadily improving! Since these are mulit-year research projects, a year of underfunding can have devastating consequences.
